Things To Do

It’s hard to imagine getting bored in Tanzania. Canoeing on flamingo-filled lakes, trekking in misty highlands, diving over pristine coral reefs, scaling icy peaks or just kicking back and sharing a joke with the locals can all be part of a trip to this incredibly diverse country. Whether you’re a millionaire or a penniless backpacker, Tanzania offers a range of activities to suit all tastes and any budget.

Tanzania is best known for its land-based wildlife safaris, but don’t forget what’s under the sea – the country’s many marine sanctuaries are home to thousands of species of fish, dazzling coral reefs and fascinating marine mammals such as whale sharks and dolphins.

Culturally, Tanzania is rich in attractions for the visitor – almost anywhere you go you will hear the strains of popular music pumping out of the radio, while live drumming, dance and musical performances are a feature of even the most modest town. The various ethnic groups in Tanzania each have their own cultural traditions, with exuberant rituals and ceremonies to mark such milestones as birth, harvest, death or marriage. Ask around where you’re staying and you may well be invited to share in one of these.
