Sadaani National Park

Seventy kilometres north of Bagamoyo, Saadeni National Park is one of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets. It’s one of the only locations in the country where visitors can experience both the ‘beach’ and ‘bush’ experiences that Tanzania is famous for. Once a cattle ranch, this unique National Park is now home to a population of beach-loving elephants, the younger and bolder of which frequently venture into the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean to bathe, trunks held aloft like snorkels above the water. Other animals inhabiting Saadeni include a large population of hippos, crocodiles, flamingoes and other bird species. Saadani is one of only two wildlife areas in Tanzania to harbour a population of the rare Roosevelt’s sable antelope, as well as providing a habitat for the endangered giant brown bat.
