Morogoro

Nestling amongst steep green hills, Morogoro is one of Tanzania’s most scenic towns. These hills are the foothills of the Uluguru Mountains, a fertile agricultural area where maize, cassava, tobacco and bananas are grown by the hardy mountain farmers of the area. Morogoro has a strong missionary tradition, and on Sundays choirs can be heard singing hymns from inside the town’s many different churches. The Uluguru mountains around Morogoro are notable for their ancient forests, estimated to be around 25 million years old, making them some of the oldest forests on the continent.
